All Saints holiday in the Chateau of Langeais
Dance and goldsmithing honored in the Castle of Langeais
During the All Saints holiday, the medieval fortress of Langeais welcomes you in family for a visit at the heart of the History. It will be the opportunity to learn more about dance and goldsmithing in Middle Ages.
Langeais, a castle with two faces
The beautiful Castle of Langeais dominates the Loire valley. At the end of the Xth century, the count of Anjou Foulques Nerra chooses to set up a fortress there intended to lock the access to the Loire. Today, it remains in the park of the Year Thousand the vestiges of the donjon, the ramparts and the chapel Saint-Sauveur. In front of the vestiges of the fortress, Louis XI orders in 1465 the construction of a new castle, today still perfectly protected. It is in this freshly set up castle that the quite young Duchess Anne de Bretagne married, in any discretion, king Charles VIII at the dawn of December 6th, 1491, so sealing the Duchy of Brittany to the realm of France.
The castle offers a double architectural face : one medieval and one announcing the Renaissance. The esthetic asset and the history of this seigneurial house is shown by the particularly alive evocation of its internal decoration: the precious furniture tells, by its wealth and its evolutions, the transformations of the lifestyle at the end of the Middle Ages.
